As of 2017, the <\/span>Pew Research Center<\/span><\/a> determined that 35 percent of the U.S. labor force were Millennials followed by Generation X at 33 percent. To be a sought after perk in 2018, a break room<\/a> has to offer what current and potential employees are looking for, and that means understanding what San Diego Millennials want. <\/span><\/p>\n

While the age difference between Millennials and Gen Xers may not be very far apart, many Millennials (those born between 1981 and 1996) came of age during the recession. For a variety reasons, the recession had a strong impact on Millennials and triggered the need to find value in what they purchase. Words that describe a product or brand that convey value to Millennials include \u201cwell-priced given the quality,\u201d \u201creliable,\u201d \u201chigh quality,\u201d \u201ctrustworthy,\u201d and \u201cloyal to customers.\u201d Next in line are words that indicate social responsibility like \u201cfair-minded,\u201d \u201cethical,\u201d \u201cmoral,\u201d and \u201ctransparent.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Whether the product in question is a piece of clothing, a smartphone, or a snack or beverage purchased from a vending machine or micro-market, value matters. So, how does this generational shift impact your San Diego break room? Unfortunately, there is no single answer for all break rooms. To figure out what matters in your break room, consider the following questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Depending on the age of your organization, your current employees might be those who the space was designed for. But if that\u2019s not the case, what do your current employees value? Are they looking for healthy snacks<\/a>, beverages, or food that have a functional purpose? Does that snack need to be organic or be made with as few ingredients as possible? <\/span><\/p>\n

The next step in this process is to compare those answers to what San Diego Millennials are looking for in the break room.
